Mines and Mining Development Minister Obert Mpofu
says corrupt leadership in Zanu PF is letting President Robert Mugabe down and
this could affect the party’s electoral performance.
Mpofu made the confession last Friday and
apologised to the people on behalf of Mugabe and the party, saying there were
lots of crooks within Zanu PF and this was part of the reason why the electorate
had deserted the party. He mentioned in particular the massive looting of
farming inputs and maize donated under Mugabe’s input scheme as evidence of the
behaviour of the party’s thieving officials.
Too little too late, not only is Zanu PF corrupt,
the world has not forgotten that these are the people that brought us untold violence
during the 2008 elections. The ZANU-PF-led government was responsible, at the
highest levels, for widespread and systematic abuses that led to the killing of
up to 200 people, the beating and torture of 5,000 more, and the displacement
of about 36,000 people.
