It's been a year and Zimbabwe needs a new identity! - Melusi Sibanda

It's been a year and Zimbabwe needs a new identity!

So it's been a year since the coup drama and we're still pretty much screwed, if not worse than we were at this point last year. President EDM is practicing his Zimbabwe 'scarf' diplomacy to no avail. The reason for the failure and lacklustre performance of his new government is that he has no vision nor any marketing strategy. Zimbabwe has no positive story or promise to sell. We are still a state in desolation and constant decline and we need a major boost that can only come in the form of a change in a identity and direction that will involve everyone within the country, young and old, black and white, locals and diasporans alike.

Sustainable economic developement through environmental protection.

Yes people this is our best option to start moving forward as a country. Very few countries in the world have the resource Zimbabwe has to adopt a Governace by Sustainability policy. We have the land, minerals, livestock, animals, infrastructure (needs work), education (requires work), health (needs work) and most importantly the people to pull this off. A sustainable economy involves everyone in within the and enduces heathly communities, economic vitality and most importantly a natural environment for our future generations.

EDM has struggled to get the Zimbabwean population and foriegn investors on board, however, I am convinced that by identifying ourselves and our country as one that is aiming for Sustainable developement, it'll be a giant step toward unity, developement and investment.

It won't be easy, however, look what RWANDA has acheived over 20 years...

Of state sponsored abductions - Justice Sibanda

The US is yet to reach a final conclusion on the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, officials say, despite reports the CIA believes it was ordered by the Saudi crown prince.
"Numerous unanswered questions" remain, a State Department statement said.
Sources told US media they did not believe the murder could have taken place without the approval of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS).

As this saga draws to an end we can't help but think about the numerous Zimbabweans who have met similar fate at the hands of the Zanu PF regime. Our thoughts are with the families that will never have answers to what befell their loved ones. As in the Khashoggi incident, they committed no crimes, they only spoke up against the corruption, bad governance, human rights abuses, economic mismanagement and unemployment so high that you can no longer call it rampant. I have no doubt that the fate they befell came from orders from the highest office in the land.

As part of the way forward I propose a database of all opponents of the Zimbabwean government that are missing. I implore the Zimbabwean Government to bring closure to hundreds of families and let them know what happened to their loved ones and where their remains. Mugabe may be gone but the hurt he has caused can still be felt so strongly.

Where is the bright future we were promised - Justice Sibanda

So right off, let me begin by saying the Zimbabwe situation is so depressing. The latest elections threw up very little surprise and the loss of life followed is one those points in our history that will be swept under the carpet as one cannot see Zanu-Pf giving up power for at least the next 20 years. The vote rigging was on the scale that Zimbabweans have come to expect from Zanu-Pf followed by the farce of a court case that confirmed Mnangagwa as the President. So all that optimism we had when Bob was finally kicked out...POOF!

ED is promising to fix the economy, hmm we will see. Zimbabwe is a lovely country with an abundance of resources. Already in bed with China,  let's face it though the figures being thrown about once you start thinking about them, show you that nothing is going to change. Out of $60 billion FOCAC pledged by Chinese President Xi Jinping towards financing African projects, ONLY a little more or less than $1 billion will be directed at Zimbabwe since investments earmarked are shared between 55 African nations.
The Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC)

Obviously only a few in the list of African countries with stable political/economic environments and high growth rates will receive the lion's share of Chinese grants, loans etc, which by no stretch of the imagination can include Zimbabwe under corrupt and incompetent Zanu-PF governance.

The Commonwealth Problem

While there are a tonne of benefits to Zimbabwe being readmitted to the Commonwealth, let's not forget why Zimbabwe was kicked out in the first place. The Commonwealth suspended Zimbabwe in March 2002 following a presidential election marred by high levels of politically motivated violence.
Commonwealth of Nations
Zimbabwe also has to fulfil a number of obligations in line with the Harare Declaration of 1991 which saw members of the Commonwealth pledging to ensure the protection and promotion of the fundamental political values of the Commonwealth; democracy, democratic processes and institutions which reflect national circumstances, the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, just and honest government; fundamental human rights, including equal rights as well as create opportunities for all citizens regardless of race, colour, creed or political belief, among other pledges.

Come 2020 I have no doubt that Zimbabwe will still be a long way from fulfilling these obligations but I am not holding out much hope for the Commonwealth standing firm and refusing readmission. Ultimately just like China members of the Commonwealth see more benefit in trade and investment rather than standing up for the people of Zimbabwe whose rights have been trampled on for so long. 😢😢😢😢😢😢

A Year and a Dream - Lamentations of Melusi Sibanda

Wow!!! What a hiatus! Absolutely no commentary needed from me. A farce of a 'coup' and an 'election', or the least, pathetic efforts of both. All we have established is that we Zimbabweans excel in half - assery and folly.

From the shear lunacy of G40 to Team La coste, there's no wonder why we're the only state that seems to have endured the pointless drama that was Santa Barbara in the 90s. At this point, I dare say that it's time to move on.

Change has happened and we have to play the hand we've been dealt with. Unfortunately, as is often the case in Africa, the opposition party did nothing to prepare an electoral defeat. 'Shock and disgust' are simply not good enough reactions to a loss, particularly after being out manoeuvred by an old uncharismatic Zanu head who's tactics lacked an ounce of creativity. To me that reaction from Chamisa exposed his thick headedness and myopic point of view. The fact that he thought that he'd walk away from the first election as president without preparing to be a viable parliamentary opposition is sheer lunacy. His idiocy is unfathomable - ngamawala!!!! I certainly hope he learns from this. Politics requires a cool head - hint, Thoko Khupe.

That said, we have to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves down from this malarkey. Let's try to do some positive nation building while the MDC gets their act together. Love him or hate him ED has had a positive air about him and it is upto us to get the country running again. I for one am ready to play my part.

Until the crocodile snaps at us - Peace out bitches✌️
