2019 and Zimbabwe is still burning by Justice Sibanda
Our thoughts are with the families and friends that have lost their loved today in demonstrations in Zimbabwe. Several people have been killed during protests in Zimbabwe after the government more than doubled the price of fuel overnight.
Hundreds more were arrested as demonstrators took to the streets in the cities of Harare and Bulawayo.
Images shared on whatsapp show once again Zimbabwean Security forces (not wearing army uniforms but fooling no-one) firing live rounds at protestors. A News Day report says that at least five people reportedly died while 24 others were injured.
The government has today (Tuesday) blocked access to social media following alleged threats from the government that it would shut down the entire internet amid protests against a fuel price hike.
Zimbabwean citizen Kerry Kay told TimesLIVE on Tuesday that the government had threatened to shut the internet on Monday.
"For the past three hours we have not been able to access WhatsApp. With the government shutting down the internet and social media - it’s the final straw for human rights," Kay said.
